foundation for data driven experiences

We’re building an Intelligent Productivity Platform for Business. This means that data-driven experiences which enhance productivity are core to our mission and strategy.

Before building these experiences we’ve decided to lay a solid foundation – build an entire infrastructure to enable us to:

Collect data from all parts of the product into a Single-Source-of-Truth repository all the while maintaining the promise of eventual consistency. We gather every user activity and data modification in append-only mode which allows us to roll back time anytime we want to.

Process data – both in real-time with Storm, or batch mode with ie. Hadoop, EMR Cluster depending on our needs.

Analyze data (IPython and R) to gain insights and make those into integral parts of the product for our users.

This entire infrastructure allows us to tackle many different categories of problems with techniques like:

  • Machine learning
  • Text mining
  • Time series analysis
  • Clustering

The breadth of challenges and skills necessary to tackle them is gigantic and way above what one person can do. A team capable of doing it has to include a set of skills with matching roles:

  • Statistician – analyzes and models using math skills
  • Machine Learning Engineer – scales machine learning algorithms
  • Data Engineer – works with growing big data needs
  • Data DevOps – maintains and scales distributed infrastructure

Each at the world-class level.

Sharing what we’ve learned

Yet another CRM?

People kept asking us: “why are you guys building yet another CRM?” It’s a valid question as there are many solutions available in this space. The great majority of them however, suffer from very low user adoption, which makes companies using them know very little of what’s really happening with their businesses and significantly limits their growth.
